Blacksmithing Evening Class
9 Sessions / $75 per session or $660 for a term
(includes materials and consumables)

6pm - 9pm Wednesdays from 4th July to 29th August


This class is about learning by doing, the only objective is to come and enjoy the process of blacksmithing and forging.

Students will be provided with a bar stock steel to work with. 

You will have full access to Shea's studio, the induction will cover basic use of the forge, blacksmithing tools, the power hammer, grinding and cutting tools and standard workshop health & safety practices.

It is not necessary to have previous experience in forging for this course!

The class times will be from 6pm-9pm and will be running every Wednesdays for 9 weeks through July - August.

Blacksmithing Workshops
2 Days / $250 (including materials)


This is a 2 day beginners class, where you will learn to make your own hammer or set of blacksmithing tongs.

You will have full access to Shea's studio, the induction will cover basic use of the forge, blacksmithing tools, the power hammer, grinding and cutting tools and standard workshop health & safety practices.

It is not necessary to have previous experience in forging for this course!

*This class will cover:

Hammer making

  • Forging
    You will forging your own drift tool to create the eye of the hammer (handle hole) and forging shape of your hammer ends

  • Grinding and sanding
    You will be using the angle grinder and belt sander to refine your hammer surface, remove forge marks and clean back the faces of the hammer
     
  • Heat treating the hammer faces
    The hammer will be hardened and tempered to give it the hardness, toughness and flexibility it needs to perform well
     
  • Fitting the Handle
    You can select a handle from our selection of pre-made stocks

OR

Tong making

  • Forging
    You will forging your own drift tool to create the rivet hole (where the two halves will be joined), drawing the 'reins' of the tongs out (arms), and forging the jaws of your tongs

  • Sealing
    The tongs will be heated and coated in oil to blacken them, help prevent them from rusting and providing better grip on the reins

*Students will make a hammer OR a set of tongs
